@DDoctor: I&#039;m going to blame multiculturalism. Try talking to a random Asian and they just give you a weird look and answer with a simple yes/no. If they can speak English that is. So of course most Australians don&#039;t start random conversations with Asian looking people. Because conversation is difficult.</description>

I read somewhere it&#039;s a symptom of our &quot;impersonal tribe&quot; culture - that our tribes became so large that we could no longer know everyone, so we stopped trying, and became &quot;comfortable&quot; with strangers.

The web is an interesting one in this. It facilitates people breaking down these barriers and connecting people in the global village. But, it also puts a barrier between us - we hide behind screens like we hide our gaze.

It&#039;s something that needs to be actively fought. &quot;World without strangers&quot; and all that.</description>
